Like I Need a Hole in My Head: Can Anyone Prove The R&R HoF Ceremony Actually Happened?

How can people who get paid that much be that stupid?

The NHL allowed the Versus network to air their All-Star Game this year. The only thing with less visibility than the NHL is the Versus network. Not only is it not on my cable system- I don’t know what it is. I’ve never even heard of the channel. The ratings, as you might expect, were on par with the sales figures of Kevin Federline’s record.

VH-1 one-upped the NHL by moving the telecast of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony from VH-1 to VH-1 Classic. In other words, they moved the show from a channel nearly everyone has to a channel almost no one has. To think these network morons actually wonder why so many people turn to YouTube and respond with lawsuits. Greed explains why they’re pissed when people do it. Nothing explains why they’re surprised by it. Nothing besides staggering stupidity.

In the defense of the Land of Corporate Stupid, it’s not like anyone who got inducted last night still sells records. Who’d want to see R.E.M. get inducted into the Hall of Fame. OK, so the Van Halen reunion didn’t happen. The R.E.M. one did. All four members, on stage, playing together. They played “Gardening at Night!” There’s no audience for that, right?

I had someone leave a comment on my home blog asking me if I knew how to get video footage of last night’s festivities. I would love to tell you that my blog is some kind of pop culture hot spot on the internet, but it’s not. My blog is easier to find than one of the biggest nights on the rock and roll calendar. This is RIAA-level stupidity.

Sue the customers. Market bad products. Badly market good products. Make popular events more difficult to be a part of rather than less. Bitch about declining album sales, ticket sales, and ratings.

It would be one thing if some minimum wage Roscoe was running these outlets- you know, some burnout who didn’t even bother to get a G.E.D. These idiotic decisions are being made by people with advance degrees from elite colleges, all of them making six-figure salaries. They get paid a metric buttload of money to make some of the most counterintuitive decisions imaginable. Of course, maybe I’m just bitter because I didn’t get to hear R.E.M. play “Pretty Persuasion.”

Evolution, my ass.

  1. [...] Fresh off their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, R.E.M. is slated to work with Jacknife Lee on their 14th studio album. Lee’s previous credits include Bloc Party, U2, and Snow Patrol. Oh, goody, R.E.M. is going to be hip, trendy, and relevant. [...]
