Like I Need A Hole in My Head: The Resurrection of Pink

Just when I thought we had rid ourselves of that talentless impostor Pink, it seems she’s gaining on us. Damn it! Just as I’m Not Dead was about to prove otherwise, her new single seems to be putting the matter in doubt. We’re going to have to find a new cryptkeeper! If you look at the two of them side by side… maybe we should make Pink the Crypt Keeper!

I am only trying to help. if we are going to insist upon killing her recording career, we should have the decency to offer her a new gig. I have answers!

Once again, we can blame Europe for this latest disaster. Jerry Lewis, David Hasselhoff, and Pink- this trifecta of terror is almost enough to wipe out their many gifts to the cause of music and entertainment. The single took off first in Europe and is now following suit in America. Maybe Europe didn’t get the memo. Maybe they think this is funny. Pink’s label had given up on this turd of a record. If they had ignored this as completely as we all ignored the first two singles, she would be on her way to VH-1 today! Speaking of which, isn’t it reassuring to know that if you see someone on VH-1 you can pretty well guarantee you don’t have to worry about them making a record ever again? Once you hit VH-1, you can be sure your music career is over. By the same token, you don’t have to worry about being assaulted by bad music on VH-1. They’d have to play videos for that to happen.

“U + Ur Hand” is now a charting single, and it has helped revive her once lifeless record. Lyricists have long taken liberties with the English language, but do we really have to start writing songs with text message-friendly titles? In 40 years, we have devolved from “I Want to Hold Your Hand” to “U + Ur Hand.”

I’ve not actually heard the song in its entirety, because I don’t want to. I’ve seen a clip of the video, and I cannot grasp what about it is enticing. You want to hear that on the radio? That makes you want to buy the record?

  1. From the Mind of Mencia — nooo I mean…Hathaway.

    anyway, amazing stuff!

  2. Guster is going to cover a Pink song in the near future…i can just feel it coming.

  3. I really hope so. She’s sold enough records- it’s time to hear one of her songs NOT suck.

  4. So, let me guess — you don’t care for Pink’s music? Personally, I think it’s great. Different strokes for different folks.

  5. And here I thought I’d been pretty clear on that point, Anna. No… I am not a big fan of the Pink. There’s worse out there, but she’s definitely on “The Enemies” list.

  6. Can we add ABBA to this trio.

    Also, what no bird…

    T.

  7. I see old people, but they don’t know they’re old, and crotchety, and desperately trying to be relevant. }:->

  8. T., that bird has flown. TheWifeToWhomI’mMarried doesn’t like that picture nearly as much as I do. I think it’s hilarious. She thinks… maybe not.

Chris… are you trying to suggest I’d like Pink or be more relevant if I were younger? You can dismiss my dismissal of Pink as an age thing but you would be wrong. I thought whoever the “Pink” of my youth sucked, too.

  9. Oh, and ABBA is certainly worth adding to that trio.

  10. I am 42 and I like the album. My girls are 10 and 12 and they like it too (I have the censored album). She reminds me of Joan Jett / Pat Benatar.

Crypt keeper? I disagree. I really like the fact that she hasn’t gotten a boob or nose job. I think she looks great.

I think U + Ur Hand has a terrible drum track (the rest of the song is fine). ‘Cuz I Can is much better. Leave Me Alone (I’m Lonely) is a pretty good too - the lyrics are fun to think about.

How much of the album have you actually heard?

  11. Jim, let me first dispense with this age thing. Age has nothing to do with my opinion of Pink. I didn’t listen to this kind of music when I was that age, although some of what I listened to as a kid was fairly terrible, and I don’t listen to it now. It’s rubbish. I don’t like it. I’ve heard more than a few Pink songs and haven’t liked one yet. She could still surprise me, but I’d rather she became The Cryptkeeper.

As for the appearance thing… that was all honestly done in good fun, done for a laugh. The point of my site and this column is to talk about the music and to have a few laughs. Anyone who travels to the About page will see I am no model. The whole thing came about as part of the I’m Not Dead/Resurrection thing.

I don’t know surgeries she has or hasn’t had, although I am comfortable with your belief she didn’t get a boob job.

  12. I like Pink. I love this album! You have the worst taste in music Josh! You’re fired!

  13. Silence, A.L., someone might believe you actually mean that! Think of the damage to your reputation!

This is why you’re the Junior, Underassistant Music Editor at BC.

  14. Sarcasm and dry humor tend to get lost in text. I forget that.

  15. Sarcasm and dry humor… two of my many vices. ;-)

  16. Pink is not only a real singer.. No lip-synching, she writes or co-writes most if not all of her songs, she and Lynda Perry wrote a song for Faith Hill as well. Her songs have real messages, and most are not stupid bubble-gum pop songs - case in point, Genie in a Bottle, Oops I Did it Again!’ She also hasn’t and won’t slice and dice herself with a nose or tit job like these other ’singers’ which makes her a better role model for young girls. The loudest voice (or in this case, the one writing the column) isn’t always the right voice or the consensus of the mass.

  17. Lee, Mariah Carey now co-writes her material, too. That doesn’t mean any of it is any damn good. Real messages? Hey, if you get something from “Get the Party Started” I guess that’s good for you.

I know I’m not the consensus of the mass… she’s selling records. However, I’ll be here to accept your apologies when she’s on Surreal Life or its equivalent five years from now.
