About Last Night… Or… Me & Muddy Waters
Last night, as I continued my recovery from sinus hell (I’ve complained about that once or twice now, haven’t I?) we had my nieces over for a visit. Allow me to open this entry with a quick digression: in addition to being joys of my life, these two girls are living artifacts in the time capsule of my life. The oldest of the two was born about a week before I started dating TheWifeToWhomI’mMarried. I’ve basically been around for her entire life. The younger of the two was born two months after we got married. I held her that night in the hospital. That doesn’t really have anything to do with what I’m about to talk about.
After being saturation bombed by multiple episodes of That’s So Raven, I needed something to restore balance to my senses. I decided to sit quietly and read my Muddy Waters biography. I’ve been casually reading it on and off for a year now. I don’t often do that. Normally when I read I do so in a compulsive manner, devouring the pages as quickly as I possibly can. For some reason, I’ve taken my own sweet time with Can’t Be Satisfied.
The portion of the book I read last night was about Waters’ run of hits during the ’50s for Chess. The book rattled off the names of all of these songs and I couldn’t very well sit there and read about these songs without listening to them. I loaded my CD player with both volumes of The Complete Chess Masters, four CDs in all, and sat in my living room reading about and listening to Muddy Waters.
This is why God created weekends.

i thought that god created weekends for college football.
dude, they are so going to revoke your man-livin-in-the-south card.
seriously though, wouldn’t it be great to be able to take a six-month sabbatical to be able to catch up on all of the reading and listening?
Muddy Waters carries enough ManCard mojo to get me a pass on that. Besides, it’s April. I’ll find a way to work listening to music and reading around the Bama games this fall.
