Sanctuary
I had one of the stranger nights of sleep in recent memory. I shall not share the particulars with you as I can only imagine they’d cause massive scarring to all of you, my dear readers.
I’m not sure what impact that bizarre night had on my decision to start the day with Charlie Musselwhite’s Sanctuary, his first album for the Real World label, but that is where I started.

Sanctuary is not an album of hardcore, fire-and-brimstone blues. There is a sense of foreboding on this ladiback, brooding record. Ben Harper and The Blind Boys of Alabama make guest appearances on the record. I’m not overly familiar with either, but their presence is positive on the tracks to which they contribute.
Few artists make their best, most interesting records late in their career but that is exactly what Musselwhite has done with Sanctuary and Delta Hardware.
