I am a complete dolt for taking chart performance personally, but I am play-in-traffic depressed that Linkin Park had the best first-week sales of any record this year with sales topping 623,000. Meanwhile, Wilco scored their second Top 10 debut as Sky Blue Sky debuted at #4, selling 87,000 copies.
I wouldn’t like Wilco any [...]

I have created a playlist in honor of the 124th birthday of the world-famous Brooklyn Bridge. Why? Because it’s easy. It’s easy because there are so many New York-themed songs and bridges are the literary crutch of thousands of songwriters. The connection is easy, everyone has heard of it, [...]

I’m preparing for the glut of June releases by hopping on a snagging a few older albums that have been clogging my wishlist for awhile. Some people are broke every week and have no idea where their money goes. Not me. I’m broke every week and I know exactly where the money [...]

I never dreamed I’d be writing as much about The Beatles and McCartney as I have the last month or so, but that’s part of the reason I do this- I don’t usually like surprises but it’s fun to see where the music and your imagination might take you.
Today, it took me to YouTube. [...]

I’m going to have to work a second job or this site is going to have to start producing some actual royalty checks. With my mouth I curse the music industry while I simultaneously hand them huge wads of my cash. I admit the absence of any semblance of logic in this. [...]

It suddenly occurred to me that it has been awhile since we had our last Guster gush. Today we put that to right. I’ve been meaning to dial up some Guster the past week or so but have been obsessively listening to new music (Wilco and Elliott Smith) and keeping up with my [...]

There is a definite trend in today’s listening: Liverpool. I listened to a fistful of Beatles songs and spent the rest of the day listening to Paul McCartney and George Harrison. Yesterday, I bought the McCartney Wingspan compilation. I decided to start there because many of his albums are about to [...]

I was called an elitist by a commenter on a piece I wrote for another site. I’ve been called worse.
To characterize things fairly, I don’t know that I was so much called an elitist as it was suggested something I wrote smacked of elitism. I haven’t aspired to be an elitist [...]

There’s not really much to tell here. I spent most of the day listening to Wilco’s Sky Blue Sky.
I went to a dance recital today to see my nieces. I wish there had been a camcorder on my face as I had to listen to some of the songs that were used for [...]

I recently wrote about an increasing interest in exploring the solo work of the former Beatles, so I downloaded the first single, “Ever Present Past,†from Paul McCartney’s upcoming album Memory Almost Full from iTunes. I know I’ll probably buy the album, but it only cost me a buck to preview a [...]
