Listening Room: “Paranoid Android” - Radiohead
I woke up this morning wanting to call everyone a Gucci little piggy. What a great song!
It’s such a smart song. There are distinct movements and these movements change the tone and dynamics of the song. The lyrics are a fabulous portrayal of paranoia. They also have some great one-liners:
“When I am king you will be first against the wall”
“Ambition makes you look pretty ugly”
“Kicking squealing Gucci little piggy”
Those are just a few of them, though, and it doesn’t do the song justice to pick it to pieces because it’s just so smart the way they put it altogether. It’s a masterpiece of a song from a masterpiece of a record. I cannot possibly tell you how many hours of life I surrendered to OK Computer, but I’m traveling back to a time not so long ago when my world revolved around this album and these songs.

This was my favorite song to drink a beer to in college… that and Yellow Submarine. Ah, the anti-glory days
I’d travel back to those times too, but I might not make it back here.
Off with his head…
I preferred “No Surprises” with my collegiate beers. I was a downer of a fuck back then, too, I guess.
I really enjoyed re-listening to that album this week. I might need to put in a weekly reminder to listen to OK Computer.
