HOLIDAY
You may have noticed I’ve been absent – at least, I hope you notice I’ve been absent.
We have been on holiday, visiting friends in S. Carolina. A good time is being had by all, but no internet access has put Fanboy on hiatus.
One of the time-honored traditions for these trips is for TheWifeToWhomI’mMarried and our friends to watch horror flicks while I read a book and listen to my iPod. Here’s a bit of what I’ve been listening to during that time:
Barrett Martin - The Painted Desert
Barrett Martin - Earthspeaker
Tuatara - Breaking the Ethers
Tuatara - Cinemathique
Joe Satriani - Surfing With the Alien
Joe Satriani - Strange Beautiful Music
Buddy Guy - Left My Blues in San Francisco
J.B. Hutto - Hawk Squawk
That’s not an exhaustive list, but it is a good overview. My reading over these past couple days? Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince (can’t wait for Deathly Hallows) and Deep Blues. This Deep Blues book has proved to be an interesting read so far even if it is written in a slightly academic tone. Robert Palmer traces the roots of the blues back to Africa, and I’ve learned quite a lot from this.
This morning, I woke up with an intense need to hear “Little Wing” by Jimi Hendrix. I’m reluctant to choose a single favorite song from artists of Hendrix’s stature because they have so many great songs, but if forced to choose, “Little Wing” would probably be it for me. So much is expressed in such a compact song.
I hope everyone had a fantastic 4th… ours has been great.
