Bloggin’ the Blues: Gina Sicilia

My stack of blues review material has reached impossible proportions and my contacts are wondering if I’m dead. I suppose it’s time to get in gear and do something about that. For reasons that are my own, I’m starting with the debut album from Gina Sicilia, Allow Me to Confess.

I’ve listened to the first four songs from the record and am fighting the urge to write the review before I’ve listened to the album. I can think of a few writers on a few sites and/or for a few magazines who ought to try that trick! It’s so tempting to start writing the lead paragraph, but I am fighting the urge to analyze the music before I’ve listened to it. I know I’m not such the king maker that one word from me can make or break a record, because if I were the world would fucking rule. On the other hand, I’m putting my name to a review of something someone else put their name to. I take it seriously. Sometimes the desire to do a good job makes me a bit eager and I’m covered in the birth juice of premature reviewage.

Now that I’ve planted that truly disgusting visual in your minds, I’m off to listen to Ms. Sicilia. You’ll be hearing more about her here on Fanboy and likely at BC Magazine as well.
