Bloggin’ the Blues: Jimmy Burns’ Live at B.L.U.E.S.
The degree to which I am loving Peter Karp’s Shadows and Cracks, which I received from a contact at his label, Blind Pig, reminded me of another album I received from a contact this year. I got a copy of Jimmy Burns’ Live at B.L.U.E.S. from Delmark a few months ago, hadn’t listened to it much since I wrote the review.
It is so great to have contacts at premiere indie blues labels!
I’m glad to be reminded of this today because I started thinking about how I’d stack my “Album of the Year” list if the year ended today. I might not have remembered to include this were it not for this little reminder. I don’t know if B.L.U.E.S. will make the final cut but it will merit some serious consideration. It is one of the better blues releases of the year and now I really want to get the companion DVD (hint hint, dear blues contacts. OK, that was shameless and I apologize… unless it’s going to work.).
“Leavin’ Here Walking” is one of my favorite blues cuts of the year.
