Recommended Reading and Listening: Aaron McMullan, Aaron Fleming, Mark Saleski, Tom Johnson, El Bicho
Help your friends and crush your enemies, excellent reasons to run a web site. With that in mind, allow me to pimp for my friends:
I already told you about the new album from Aaron McMullan, but I want to remind you of it. It’s called Yonder! Calliope? and you should all order a copy or 12 of it. It’s available now from Ex Libris, it’s available internationally. Buy it, or I’ll slap you.
Some of you complain that you never have anything good to listen to. That’s because you’re not paying attention. I tell you about all sorts of things you ought to be listening to. So do these fellas:
- Aaron Fleming: Sir Fleming has reviewed the new Dream Theater album. I haven’t even bought the silly fucker yet, but I most assuredly will.
- Mark Saleski: The Tuesday Morning Purchase is a companion piece to The Friday Morning Listen. If you want to know what’s coming out each week and what you should buy, this is a must read.
- Tom Johnson: Tom used to write a column called Overlooked Alternatives in which he, too, would scour the weekly list of new releases and call attention to some of the albums that tend to slip through the cracks. He’s got a new column called The Breakdown. The name is new but the goal is the same: to help you find the best new music.
- El Bicho: ElB has written a great review of the new Joan Osbourne CD, Breakfast in Bed. I didn’t like “One of Us” very much (although Dr. Evil’s performance brought something to it), but ElB says she has a lot more to offer than that lone pop song.
So, what have we got here? A new album to buy and three articles about… new albums to buy. Operators are standing buy. Get that copy of Yonder, would you ever?

Thanks, Josh! I hope everybody also hits my sites (that includes my non-music site, as I post more stuff on those than I do on BC.
I’ve got to go check out Aaron’s review of the new Dream Theater. I’m surprised I like this thing . . . a lot!
