Passengers

Updating yesterday’s story about my quest for restraint in the face of a burning desire to buy new music:passengers.jpg

I got stir crazy last night sitting home alone so I went and strolled through a couple stores looking for some bargain CDs and DVDs. While picking through a used CD store on the other end of town I found a copy of Passengers. $5. Done.

I saved a fair chunk of money on that purchase. My patience was rewarded. I wish I could tell you this has imparted a valuable lesson and I’m likely to repeat this rare act of self-control. Don’t bet on it, that’s my thinking. In the meantime, it was a nice little surprise and I’m listening to the record as we speak.

I like moody, atmospheric music and that seems to be the order of Soundtracks Vol 1. It’s very nice, but I find myself wishing there was a little more melody to be found lurking in the swaths of keyboards and assorted electronics. I’m still listening through it fully for the first time, so it could easily be that melodies are there but will require a little more time spent listening. It could also be that I won’t miss those missing melodies once I’ve gotten used to the flow of the record.

It should also be noted that “Your Blue Room” and “Miss Sarajevo” are two of the most beautiful songs U2 has ever had a hand in creating. If you can’t find a copy of the Passengers project, both songs were on the 2-CD version of U2’s Best of 1990-2000. They alone justify the cost.

  1. wow, somehow i never heard of this soundtrack. hmmmm….

  2. It’s not a real soundtrack. It’s a sideproject Eno and U2 did. Good stuff, too.

  3. well ya, i can sort of tell that by the amazon info, but i’m still surprised i missed it. i suppose i don’t have to own every cd ever recorded.

  4. Of course we do!
