Love Becomes My Hammer!
I know I’ve mentioned it before but only Tom seems to take me seriously: Zwan is the best thing Billy Corgan has ever done and “Ride a Black Swan” is the best song he’s ever written.
This song never fails to inspire me, to elevate me, to make me want to explode. Glory. Ecstasy. Guitars. There’s so much fuckin’ energy!
“Ride a Black Swan” almost has a symphonic feel. It opens with layers of beautiful guitars, joined by Corgan’s surprisingly on-key vocals. Jimmy Chamberlin’s hyperactive, kinetic drumming is introduced in the mix and then the whole thing explodes! The song radiates the heat of the band’s energy and intensity, takes a deep breath to allow the band and listener to do the same, and then dashes to the finish line. It is unacceptable to me that this song was not a massive, worldwide hit.
