Let’s Talk About My iPod: “Classic Rock Radio”
I haven’t been able to get into the flow of listening to a particular album or artist from beginning to end today, so I’ve been letting my iPod play DJ for me. I’ve set up a series of “Smart Playlists” (that’s Apple’s term for them, not mine) that rotate songs based on different parameters of my choosing.
For example, I’m listening to my own iPod classic rock radio station right now. My iPod selects 10 songs that haven’t played in the past seven days that have been assigned the classic rock genre. Only songs that I’ve given a four or five star rating are selected. I don’t have all 15,000 songs on my iPod rated with 1-5 stars. Only my favorite songs get one designation or the other.
My Current 10-song Classic Rock Break:
- “Black Dog” – Led Zeppelin
- “Strawberry Fields Forever” – The Beatles
- “Born in the USA” – Bruce Springsteen
- “Break On Through” – The Doors
- “The Little Red Rooster” – The Rolling Stones
- “The Christian Life” – The Byrds
- “After Midnight” – Eric Clapton
- “Why” – The Byrds
- “You’re Still On My Mind” – The Byrds
- Sound and Vision – David Bowie
That opening salvo of Zeppelin, Beatles, Springsteen, and The Doors is pretty solid. Those are four pretty famous songs. Some of the other songs are known but not quite as iconic as the opening quartet.
It is a little peculiar that three Byrds songs would be selected, two of them from the same album (Sweetheart of the Rodeo). Then again, it’s randomly selecting songs I like. I like The Byrds. I like Sweetheart. Why couldn’t that randomly happen?
