McCartney, Lennon, Petty, Norah Jones Join All-Star Tribute to Fats Domino
Let’s hope I get a lot of money for my birthday in September, because this Fats Domino tribute album is going to have to be in my collection when it arrives in stores Sept. 25.
Going Home: A Tribute to Fats Domino will be a 2-CD set and features some of the biggest names in music covering songs by the legendary artist whose name will now forever be tied to post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans.
Going Home was conceived by Bill Taylor, director of the non-profit Tipitina’s Foundation. Domino made a record last year and donated a portion of his proceeds to the foundation, and Taylor helped organize this tribute to Domino to again raise funds for the charity.
Some of these songs will be new recordings while others like John Lennon’s cover of “Ain’t That a Shame” will have already been released.
Among the cuts I’m most excited to hear from this set are Tom Petty’s cover of “I’m Walkin’” and Norah Jones’ “My Blue Heaven.” That one might cause me to set every building between Huntsville and New Orleans ablaze. I’m also excited about hearing Irma Thomas and Macia Ball’s “I Just Can’t Get New Orleans Off My Mind.” I wasn’t familiar with Thomas until hearing her BMA-winning album After The Rain.

holy crap this looks good. I can think of a couple people already who would love this.
I like the Tipitina Foundation. Last Christmas we donated $ in the names of our kids’ music teachers. They thought that was awesome.
