Hey! Ho! Let’s Go! To the Store…

We’re heading for another day of 100 big degrees of ballsweating weather and I’m growing restless. Happy Friday, folks.

A big box of tunes would be on its way to my house as we speak if I had only hit the “submit” button on that Amazon order I compiled yesterday. I didn’t do it because I shouldn’t spend the money, but I’m mildly depressed about it today. Now I won’t have any of it until Monday at the earliest even if I overrule my better judgment right now. These are the drawbacks of living in a city with no real music stores. Amazon and other internet retailers are my best and sometimes only option if I want anything other than Linkin Park and Acorn records.

What was I going to buy yesterday? I’m glad you asked.

  • The Ramones — Hey! Ho! Let’s Go! Anthology
  • The Kinks – The Kinks Kronicles
  • That U2/Eno Passengers collaboration

I don’t have anything by the Ramones or Kinks in my collection and it’s probably past time to do something about that. I’m not a fan of punk music on any level but I know a few Ramones songs and appreciate Joey Ramone’s punk/pop mix. As for The Kinks, so many of the bands I like point to them as an influence it seems fucking well mandatory that I scope them out.

In what has to be one of the great upsets in music history, restraint and patience defeated greed and musical obsession yesterday afternoon. Patience 1, Josh 0. It’s fucking shocking.

  2. Hi Josh– I hope you have some patience left over for the Kinks Kronikles, not that you’ll necessarily need any. That album was my clincher of an intro to the Kinks.

The other day, in searching for “The Great Lost Kinks Album” for a write-up (it wasn’t lost), I came across across a couple of Kinks’ ’70s “Preservation” concept albums, and was surprised that they didn’t sound as clunky, dated, and forced as I anticpated–they sounded as good as the even older “Knonicles” collection does.

  3. Gordon, thanks for making it all the way over here!

I have not yet made the purchase, but I’m quite sure my resistance shall not last much longer. I’ve been meaning to check them out for so long and now I’m just going to have to dive in. If I don’t order it today, I’m sure it will happen next week when I get paid.

By the by… my sp@m filter is what seemed to get you caught up. I believe I have fixed that now. I’ve had a lot of trouble with that filter!
