Music of the Moment: Picking Up Where I Left Off

gorge.jpgI listened to 2/3 of the show yesterday, getting all the way through “Spin the Black Circle.”

I hate listening to only part of a live album, especially those rare live albums that are complete single shows like this one. It seems wrong to leave the band on stage before they’ve taken their final bows, so I picked back up with “Alive” and rode it through “Yellow Ledbetter.”

Why does every guitar player think he should do “The Star-Spangled Banner?” On this night they do a cover of “Little Wing,” perform “Yellow Ledbetter” which blatantly borrows from “Little Wing,” and ends with Mike McCready doing “Banner.” We get it, he’s a Hendrix fan just like the rest of us! There are only two versions of the “Star-Spangled Banner” I like to hear. Hendrix’s from Woodstock and Whitney Houston’s from the Super Bowl a few years ago. Every one else should stop it, especially you guitarists. It’s been done.

Anyway, I’ve now finished Gorge #3 and it’s time to find the next Music of the Moment.

  1. Why does every guitar player think he should do “The Star-Spangled Banner?”

because it’s the next thing we learn after the F chord.

    gees, you are so silly.

  2. I was one lesson too late. Now I get it.
