Taking Care of Business: New Releases for October
One of the hazards of this Fanboy gig is listening for pleasure can sometimes get pre-empted by listening for business. The calendar changes from September to October and I’ve got a slew of new releases due out this month and I’ve got to tell you all about them. This won’t absolve me of all my writing responsibilities, but here’s a quick rundown of what you can expect to hear about in the coming days and weeks:
1. Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band — Magic: [10/2] This is the one “pleasure” review I’ve got coming my way, by which I mean I’m paying my own hard-earned cash for it rather than getting it through one of my contacts. I’m going to be participating in another roundtable discussion with conspirators Mark Saleski and Lisa McKay.
2. John Fogerty — Revival: [10/2] I’m not sure if it’s good or bad for Fogerty that his album streets the same day as Springsteen; it could go either way. I just got the album last week and I’m listening to it again this morning. I’ve started jotting down a few notes…
3. Tuatara — West of the Moon: [10/9] I mentioned getting this one last Friday. It was, at one time, going to street in September. It’s been pushed back to 10/9, which is also…
4. The BLUE BELLA RECORDS DROP: Four new blues releases from our friends at Blue Bella Records, home of Nick Moss & The Flip Tops. Moss’ release, the 2-CD Play It ‘Til Tomorrow, headlines a big day for the blues. I’ve got all four of the albums and have spent the most time listening to the Moss disc and have a pretty good feel for what I like (most of it) and what I don’t (a couple relatively minor quibbles). I’ve really got to hunker down and listen more to these other records. Here’s the rundown again:
- Nick Moss & The Flip Tops Play It ‘Til Tomorrow
- Gerry Hundt Since Way Back
- Bill Lupkin Hard Pill to Swallow
- The Kilborn Alley Blues Band Tear Chicago Down.

what, no Mariah Carey review?! pansy.
Wow, all those magnificent releases you could have chosen to discuss and comment upon and all you want to do is make a Mariah Carey joke? Very classy.
It’s a travesty that Mariah isn’t in the RRHOF.
is that the Tuatara with the vocals or am i confusing it with another one?
It’s a second album with vocals, Mark. It’s the companion piece to the album that was released earlier this summer. They’re releasing two this year, East of the Sun and West of the Moon.
Pico, I’m sure she’s going to get in. She just has to wait for her 25-year mark. That “travesty” will soon be corrected. Surreal.
No death metal, or black metal? (Very different things, you know.)
You mean death metal videos are actually more unintentionally funnier than black metal videos?
They’re all completely serious, Pico. How can you not tell?
