‘Twas The Night Before Springsteen: John Fogerty — Revival

fogerty-path.jpgIt’s a good thing I got John Fogerty’s album last week because if I were to go to the store tomorrow to buy both Revival and Springsteen’s Magic, I’m not sure when I’d get around to actually listening to Revival. That’s how much I anticipate loving Magic.

In the meantime, I’ve finished my review of Revival for Blogcritics and wanted to take a moment to discuss the thoughts that didn’t make the review or expand on those that did.

I sometimes wonder after I’ve written a review if I’ve at all conveyed a sense of how an album makes me feel. I can analyze a record and break it down, but I’m not always sure a reader would have a sense that I liked it or didn’t like it when they’re done reading. I tend to try to take myself out of the reviews I write, making them different from the articles I write here.

I rarely hear a perfect album so I’m likely to have issues or quibbles with a record I like. I think people interpret any criticism of a song, album, or artist as me not liking said song, album, or artist. I had some issues with some of the songs on Revival and I pointed those out. There are a couple songs on the record I don’t like very much, but I like the album in spite of those. I hope that sense comes through in the review I wrote.
