Show a Little Faith, There’s Magic In The Night — The Ballad of Magic, Part 1

magic.jpgI pre-ordered my copy of Magic last week from Amazon. I checked my order status this afternoon and the status hadn’t changed from pending to shipped; the estimated delivery date was 10/4, a full two days after the actual release. Amazon Prime is the nuts, but this just wouldn’t do. I did what any deranged Fanboy would do. I cancelled the Amazon order and went to Wal-Mart at midnight to make sure one more minute of my life would not pass without me owning that record. I was always a little bothered that Amazon and UPS wouldn’t have the album to me until sometime tomorrow afternoon, best case scenario. The possibility of having to wait until Thursday was unacceptable. Drastic actions were required.

In a sign that I’m getting old, I came home from work and took a nap in anticipation of my midnight run. I didn’t do that because I can’t make midnight on my own. That’s nothing. I did it because there was no fucking way I was going to buy this album and go to bed as soon as I got home. That meant at least another hour and now, well… maybe I ain’t that young anymore. Still, I have faith and now there’s Magic in my night.

Commitment or committed. You decide.

  1. I think you should be committed for your commitment and for that commitment I commend you!

  2. I’m with you on the “pre-empt Amazon” thing - I’ve done it a few times, sending their tardy (by my impatient calendar, anyway) package back with the reason being that I found it cheaper elsewhere. It’s true - time IS money, after all.

  3. Pete! I appreciate the endorsement. This shall not be my last midnight run.

Tom, I have had really great luck with Amazon thus far but this album was too important for me to take the risk. I actually wound up paying more by the time it was all said and done, but it was worth it for the extra hours of hearing it and owning it.

  4. Sometimes you just have to have it - and it’s worth more for that privelege. I meant to say that I’ve done the same - paid more and sent my Amazon package back - but I was lazy.
