Springsteen Magic Tour 11/05/07 Detroit: “Jackson Cage,” “Ramrod,” Debut

Bruce Springsteen is a vengeful man, punishing Motown for not filling up the building. Apparently Detroit didn’t sell out last night but that didn’t stop Springsteen and the E-Street Band from playing three songs for the first time this tour, most notably “Jackson Cage.”

11 tells me this might be the first “Jackson Cage” appearance since The River tour. If it’s been played between then and last night, it hasn’t been played often. I’m actually more excited about the return of “Ramrod,” a personal favorite of mine that never sounded better than it did in MSG on the reunion tour a few years back. I’m also pleased to see “I’ll Work For Your Love” getting its premiere. I’m surprised it’s taken this long. That is one of my favorites from Magic. Here’s the full rundown:

1. Radio Nowhere
2. Night
3. Lonesome Day
4. Gypsy Biker
5. Magic
6. Reason to Believe
7. Jackson Cage*
8. She’s the One
9. Living in the Future
10. The Promised Land
11. I’ll Work For Your Love*
12. Tunnel of Love
13. Working on the Highway
14. Devil’s Arcade
15. The Rising
16. Last to Die
17. Long Walk Home
18. Badlands
19. Girls in Their Summer Clothes
20. Ramrod*
21. Born to Run
22. Dancing in the Dark
23. American Land

  1. My research tells me that ‘Jackson Cage’ was played 9 times on ‘The Rising’ tour, but before that, it had been on the bench since the end of ‘The River’ tour in 1981.

So, that was the 10th time the song had been played in the last 26 years. While we are talking rarities, BossMan, I will offer up a request while quoting you and asking the musical question, ‘Hey, where’s Santa Ana? …’

Plenty of shows to go, Bruce! It’s not too late to learn it!

  2. Right, fuckin’ forgot we’re supposed to be banging him to play “Santa Ana.”
