Bloggin’ The Blues: Otis Rush - “Gambler’s Blues”

Wow, I’d forgotten what a fucking great song this is and what a fabulous job Otis Rush does on it!
I’m letting my iPod shuffle and up came this song — the studio version from his Mourning in the Morning record which was recorded in Muscle Shoals, AL — and it knocked me on my ass all over again. I hadn’t listened to any Otis in a little while and this was a killer reminder of what I love about him and his playing.
The song is originally a BB King tune. I’ve got a live version of BB doing it on his box set King of the Blues. I guess because I’m such an Otis fan and because I’ve heard Otis sing it so many times, I prefer Otis’ takes but the BB version is not to be missed either.
