Bloggin’ The Blues: Otis Rush - So Many Roads, Live in Japan

otis_somanyroads.jpgAll last night did was whet my whistle.

I woke up this morning and let my iPod play some of my favorite Otis Rush songs on random before deciding to tear into one of his albums. After kicking around the possibilities awhile, I decided to go with my favorite of his live albums So Many Roads: Live in Concert (from Delmark Records). Roads has a good set list and the sound quality is probably the best of any of the numerous live albums recorded during this period. Rush is in strong voice, his backing band is good, and his playing as characteristically outstanding.

One of the highlights from the set is a great take on “Gambler’s Blues,” a song he more than made his own over the years of playing it.
