The Tale of Two Bruces: Springsteen and Hornsby

Words to screen, words to screen.

Good afternoon, dear readers. Accept my apology for being tardy on the updates around here. I’ve been:

A) Up my own ass
B) Tending to administrative duties associated with BC Magazine
C) Watching Tin Man with my wife in the evenings
D) Generally uninspired
E) All of the above

I guess you know which to pick then. Well done. So, where to now?

Bruce Springsteen is playing a show in Europe as we speak. I expect to have a set list update directly.

As for right now, I’m listening to Bruce Hornsby’s Greatest Radio Hits. That would be the fault of Mat Brewster. He reviewed a box set Hornsby released a year or so back. Reading that review put Hornsby on my musical radar and I finally broke down and bought his hits compilation. Hornsby seems ambivalent about his pop music past. That’s a shame because he was quite good at it, as Greatest Radio Hits demonstrates.

  1. Hornsby is an unbelievably great pianist. Unfortunately most of his albums fall a bit short. Harbor Lights or Hot House is a good place to start though. Or live. See him live if he comes to town, he’s really good in person.

  2. Maybe this is one of those few instances where a compilation is a good thing. I liked Greatest Radio Hits. He does a duet with Shawn Colvin, who I like, on one of them. Good stuff.

  3. yes, you must get Harbor Lights.

it’s so good, it’s worth risking your marriage over.

  4. Harbor Lights, you say? I might have to throw that on the wishlist.
