Jeff Tweedy (Wilco) To Headline Obama Fundraiser
It’s not exactly Oprah Winfrey, but U.S. Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign is getting support from another Chicagoland celebrity.
Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy is headlining a fund raiser for the Illinois Democrat. The event is being billed as “Change Rocks†and will take place in Chicago on December 7. Also slated to appear are Third Eye Blind frontman Stephen Jenkins, The Cool Kids, and Jill Sobule.
The first contest in the American presidential campaign is less than a month away and celebrities are lining up behind their favorites. Barbra Streissand is backing former First Lady Sen. Hillary Clinton –pairing what might be the two most unpopular women in America (I kid, I kid!). Sen. Obama has landed support from Oprah Winfrey, who is set to campaign for him in Iowa.
As is typical in these kinds of things, the Republicans are finding it tougher to get star power to support their candidacy. It’s so tough, in fact, the GOP has resorted to allowing B-level stars seek the nomination outright (Fred Thompson). Only former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has found support from Hollywood, if Chuck Norris still counts.
