Ringo Around The Christmas Tree

I don’t think of myself as a sappy or sentimental person, but I occasionally fall victim to nostagia.

ringo_ringo.jpgThere’s a picture of me as a kid – I’m probably four-years old – sitting on the floor in front of our old turntable in my PJs wearing a big-ass pair of ’70s stereo headphones. In the foreground you can see the LP cover to Ringo Starr’s Ringo album. I have memories of listening to that record over and over again.

As a kid, I first fell in love with the drums. I even had a little drum kit, not that I ever learned to play it. I also loved The Beatles. Ringo was the drummer of The Beatles, hence Ringo was my hero. I’ve always had a tender spot in my heart for Ringo, based largely on a picture. How interesting is it that one of the biggest hits – and most certainly the best song on the record – would be named “Photograph?”

Fast forward 30 years and I’m sitting in my living room, listening to Ringo once again. It is my favorite Christmas present this year because it’s Christmas morning and I feel like a kid all over again. Merry Christmas, Fanboy Universe.

  1. I remember this album very well. There was an incredible amount of rumours at the time that The Beatles would get back together as all of them were on the album … As many people know, I thrive on memories such as these … Very cool Josh ..

Did you see McCartney and Ringo on Larry King the other day?

  2. Blues Blogger, thanks for finding your way over here! I remember a steady stream of Beatles reunion rumors and yes, even surrounding this record. In a sense, it did happen with this record with all four participating (but not all four on one song). This may not be the best Beatle solo record, but it has to be considered among them. It’s just too much fun.

I saw a Larry King Live episode around the time of the launch of the Love show with Paul and Ringo (and Yoko and Olivia). Is that the same one?

  3. The LOVE Show by Cirque du Soleil … Yes that’s the one. I always enjoy watching any interview with any Beatle …
