7 Days of Satriani: Satriani Plans Tour to Celebrate Surfing With the Alien 20th Anniversary
Joe is doing more than participating in the release of a 20th Anniversary Edition of Surfing With the Alien to commemorate the occasion. He’s also setting out on a four-date tour, hitting New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
The plan calls for Joe to perform Surfing from top to bottom – let’s stop right there. I’ve heard live renditions of many of these songs, but there are some I’ve never heard live. “Crushing Day” and “Always With Me, Always With You” are my favorite songs on the album. “Always” has been performed live a number of times. I’ve never heard him do “Crushing Day.” In addition to playing the album from top to bottom, Joe is planning on giving a little bit of background on the songs and will round out the show with a few other fan favorites, just for fun. Oh, what I wouldn’t give to be at one of these shows! Let us hope someone has the good sense to record them, with an eye on releasing one for posterity. Even though he’s released a live show from San Francisco, the smart money is there.
The Surfing Tour Dates:
- August 15: New York
- August 16: Chicago
- August 17: Los Angeles
- August 18: San Francisco

I would bet very good money that we’ll be getting a “Surfing Live with the Alien” album and DVD soon, probably by Christmas of this year. The timing of the release of this deluxe is conspicuous - normally something like this might have been released around Christmas, so I suspect they have something special planned for the fall.
