An Embarrassment of Riches

Welcome to Camp Fanboy, boys and girls. Today is a good day.

I don’t know exactly why I woke up with my Good Mood Personality at the helm this morning, but I am pleased today. I am choosing to attribute all or most of this good mood to the tremendous amount of fabulous music added to my iPod this past month. There’s been so much that I haven’t had the chance to hear all of it, let alone properly digest it. It is a nice problem to have. The July release schedule is good, but not as good as June. I’m looking forward to continuing to absorb that which has been added so I can write about it.

Let’s do a quick re-cap of the June releases:

  • Pearl Jam - The Gorge ‘05-’06
  • Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger
  • The White Stripes - Icky Thump
  • The Traveling Wilburys - The Traveling Wilburys Collection
  • Paul McCartney - Memory Almost Full
  • Matt Schofield Trio Ear to the Ground
  • Tuatara - East of the Sun
  • Bruce Springsteen - Live in Dublin
  • Muddy Waters, James Cotton, Johnny Winter - Breakin’ it Up, Breakin’ it Down
  • Paul Simon - The Essential Paul Simon
  • Tom Petty - Highway Companion [Deluxe Edition]
  • Pinetop Perkins - Born in the Honey [DVD]
  • The Rolling Stones - The Biggest Bang [DVD]

I’ve liked all of it and loved some of it. I haven’t listened to all of the Pearl Jam box — halfway through show two of three — and have barely scratched the surface of Stripes and Adams. I got to spend a fair amount of time with McCartney, Tuatara, Springsteen, and The Stones. Everything else is somewhere in between in terms of time spent listening. I really need to go back through all of it. Fortunately, we have a road trip coming up next week and I should have some opportunities to soak it all in.

A few more thoughts cross my line as I skim that list of releases:
*** Thank goodness I didn’t have to pay for all of that. ***
*** I’m frightened when I consider that I did actually pay for most of it. ***
*** You’re an idiot if you’re one of those people complaining that there’s nothing good to listen to these days.***

    a-fricking-men!

  2. I’ll pass that on to A–

  3. Now Bicho, I’m sure I wasn’t thinking of anyone in particular when I wrote that.

  4. Who could you possibly be talking about? ;-)

Easy Tiger is freakin’ gorgeous. It seems to be a slow-grower for most of the listeners I’ve seen commenting on it, including me, but a half-dozen listens and the thing really clicked and won’t let me go. A year off and getting sober really did the guy some good.
