Let’s Talk About My iPod: March 25, 2007

It has been a busy day here at Fanboy. Preparations are being made to make the site pretty, and my iPod has been my co-pilot.

It looks like Garbage and Hendrix were the dominant artists for today’s listening. Two artists who were ahead of their times, from a sonic perspective. Obviously Hendrix was moreso than Garbage, but Shirley, Butch and Co. blazed some trails. Their album was one of the first American albums to successfully merge rock, electronica, and alternative music. Beck’s Odelay was another, and both albums dropped near the same time. Prior to that, European artists blended those styles and American listeners were suspicious of it. In some ways, they still are.

Garbage was a pioneer and they don’t get the credit they deserve. Their music still holds up. That debut record is one of the great debut records, ever. Hendrix’s debut was, too. They have more in common than meets the eye…
