More Writing About Writing

Otis Rush - So Many Roads - Live In Concert - Looking Back (Take a Look Behind)

A quick post to tell you I’ve nearly finished writing something you’ll soon be reading here. I write a lot of those. I get distracted too easily. Sometimes my posts are better in theory than in principle and I’m never more excited about them than I am 15 minutes before they’re finished.

My companion music for this is Otis Rush’s live album, So Many Roads - Live in Japan. This and All Your Love I Miss Loving, both from the Delmark label, are my favorite Otis live albums and should be among your first Otis Rush purchases. iTunes only has one song from this set. It’s not my favorite song on the disc, but it’s a good one and you should sample it. C’mon, it’s only $1!

I got in the mood for some Otis after UPS delivered my copy of Robert Palmer’s Deep Blues. The Blues Foundation put the book in their Hall of Fame, and I’ve seen it referenced innumerable times. I understand it is one of the most important books on the blues ever written and I’ve long wanted to read it. Rush is mentioned in the book; I skipped ahead and skimmed those paragraphs. As soon as I finish writing this bit I’m working on, I plan to retire to my bedroom to begin reading it from the beginning.
