Music of the Moment: Pearl Jam - Live at The Garden
The plan was to wade through the ample stack of review material sitting on my desk and start doing some writing about it. That stack started to look a bit intimidating, and I got lazy so I called an audible. I went to the store and bought a copy of Pearl Jam’s Live at The Garden DVD, because I haven’t gotten enough live Pearl Jam.
A couple funny thing about this purchase: I have the CD version of it. It was released awhile back along with the other night on the two-night stand they did back in 2003, so I’ve heard all of this before. The other funny is that I have only listened to these guys the past few years, not actually seen what any of them look like. They got out of the mode of putting band pictures in their CDs and they sure don’t make fuckin’ videos, so I couldn’t pick any of them out of a lineup. I guess I recognize Vedder well enough, but even he looks a lot different than he did when we were both a bit younger. It’s kind of a trip to have the pictures to go with the words at the moment. I’m enjoying this.
One of the first things I notice while watching this is what a great rock drummer Mr. Matt Cameron is. You can hear it in the music, but it’s really something to watch him. Watching this DVD and having listened to all the live PJ music has me hungering to actually see them in person. I never have. That has ot to be rectified. Soon.
That stack is still sitting there. There’s always tomorrow, and now I’m broke. I’ll have to stay home- not that I won’t just as likely put this DVD back in and watch it all over again. OK, less typing and more watching…

Love this DVD. I watch it when I treadmill, often (wheezing and singing along, naturally). One of my favorite moments has to be when Vedder acknowledges that the band didn’t know what in the hell was going on when the whole stage started bouncing around due to the sheer amount of noise that was being created by themselves and the audience… You can’t beat Eddie cheering when he finds out that he’s now in the same rarified atmosphere as Iron Maidon, lol.
They released another DVD through their website a few years ago, showcasing the first night of the tour that would follow the release of Riot Act. If you can grab a copy (I think they still sell it on their website), it’s worth it if only for seeing Vedder work his way through “Thumbing my way…” for the first time onstage… notebook of lyrics and all.
Hmmph. DIdn’t mean to babble quite that much. I guess it shows that Pearl Jam is one of my favorite bands. Oh well
