Out With the Old, In With The New

The “Billboard Beatdown” is deader than Bobby Baccalieri. I couldn’t bring myself to say deader than Silvio Dante because I’m holding out the smallest hope that Sil will be spared. I love Sil.

Anyway, back to the Billboard Beatdown feature. “Billboard Beatdown” was the snappy name I gave to my “Song of the Day” feature. I like the idea of writing about a song every day. Some artists write a song every day. I’d like to write about a song every day.

The problem? While I admire the attitude behind a title like “Billboard Beatdown,” the title is lamer than a KC & The Sunshine Band triple-live album. The title actually became a mental obstacle for me and I kind of gave up writing the feature on account of it.

I’ve solved my dilemna. A “Song of the Day” series will once again be part of the Fanboy program, under an old/new title. I’m plagirizing myself on this one. The “Song of the Day” feature will now be called “The Listening Room.”

I was running a series by that name at BC Magazine but due to a number of minor reasons — most of them my fault — the series was scrapped. The name, however, suits my purpose and will now be put to good use around here.

Every day, or at least every week day, I’ll fling a song out there for us to discuss. We’ll sit down on the comfy couches here in the virtual Listening Room. We’ll have a virtual scotch, a virtual smoke, and a virtual conversation. To that end, you can leave comments about the song in each Listening Room post. The virtual smoke and scotch are going to require imagination. I guess I could go get a picture and post that on each post, but what if we don’t smoke and drink the same brands? Best to leave that to your power of imagination.

Right, then, on we go to The Listening Room.
