The Stalkings Were Hung By the Chimney With Care

I’ve been AWOL for a couple days because TheWifeToWhomI’mMarried and I have exchanged a couple of early Christmas gifts. One of my gifts was Season 1 of Dexter. Hence, the AWOL-ness. We watched the entire season over Saturday and Sunday.

We now return to our regularly-scheduled Fanboy programming…

I’ve just wrapped the last of the presents and Bono found time in his busy world-saving schedule to keep me company,

I know I’ve told the story before but it bears referencing. I’ve been watchingElevation: Boston DVD as I wrapped. This tour is the first time I saw U2 in concert. The show I saw, in Lexington, KY, is when I became a U2 fan. That experience was my baptism into the U2 family.

Last night before my appearance on Glosslip Radio, TWTWIM and I watched the tail end of “VH-1’s Best Songs of the ’90s.” Let me tell you: my ass feels all kinds of fuckin’ old! Anyway, it was the least suspenseful countdown in rock history because if you didn’t know Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” would top the list, you just haven’t been paying attention.

#2 was “One” by U2. TWTWIM asked me if that or “Pride (In The Name of Love)” was my favorite U2 song. I thought about it for a moment and told her I lean towards “One,” but that “Pride” nearly reduced me to a puddle in concert.

She asked me which song it was that gets to 11.

“Ahhh,” I said, “That would be ‘Bad,’ It’s from The Unforgettable Fire, but the definitive version is on the Elevation DVD where they did a medley of ‘Bad,’ ‘40,’ and ‘Where The Streets Have No Name.’ It’s transcendent. It’s heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. It’s just incredible.”

So I’m sitting here in my living room, the presents are wrapped, the cats are napping, and Bono I’ve now watched that medley twice.

Incredible.
