“Across The Border/Santa Ana” in Atlanta, Day 6: Do It For Danny!

I’ve been trying all day to find a way to tie the “Across The Border” campaign in with my youngest sister’s birthday today but I’ve come up with dick in that regard. Happy Birthday, R.

So, the campaign… I’m doing dangerous work right now, boys and girls. I’m reminding myself how much I want and need to hear this song performed by listening to it as I write this.

Today’s reason can be summed up in two words: “Danger” Dan Federici. For those of you out of the loop, Federici is one of the original members of the E Street Band and he’s taken a leave of absence to be treated for melanoma (skin cancer). In addition to playing organ and keyboards for the band, Dan “The Man” also plays a mean accordion; said accordion being used to sublime effect on “Across The Border.”

If the stars align, Dan will be back with the band in April. His accordion, Soozie Tyrell’s violin, and Patti’s backing vocal will all be available. Nils Lofgren can throw down some nice pedal steel. Steve can just stand there. Clarence can shake a tambourine. The hosts of heaven will stop what they’re doing and turn their gaze towards Atlanta, where they will hear a modern day hymn of sorrow and hope performed in our presence. Who can be opposed to this?

If Danger Dan is still on the disabled list, Bruce can stroll to the stage with his acoustic guitar and harmonica in the rack. I’m not picky. I wouldn’t dream of dictating the arrangement; just the song. I’m not even dictating the song, merely suggesting it repeatedly.

  1. ok, you’ll get your wish, they will play “Across The Border”…

…but it will segue into “Wild Billy’s Circus Story”

  2. ‘Wild Billy’s Circus Story?’ we can only hope! Bruce’s best live word change ever:

    Jesus send some good women
    To save US …

  3. It won’t matter what he plays after because Atlanta will already be in flames!

“Wild Billy” isn’t my favorite thing ever, but something to lighten the mood might not be all that bad.

  4. oh shoot, i should have picked “Factory”.

    dang, i’m losin’ my touch.

  5. Like I said, at the end of “Border” I’ll likely burn the place so he can bring it on.

You’re a cruel, cruel man, Saleski.
