Music of the Moment: Peter Karp - Shadows and Cracks

It didn’t take long for my #1 Album of 2007 to get dusted off in 2008!

I bought a lot of music at the end of ‘07 and wondered if that combined with a serious Beatles obsession would cause Shadows and Cracks to get sent to the bench. I have my answer.

After spending the morning listening to Alice in Chains, I found myself ready for something different. I wish I could remember what caused me to choose Peter Karp, but my day is better for it.

Wouldn’t you know, but the very next album I reached for after Shadows was my 2006 Album of the Year, Guster’s Ganging Up on the Sun. I guess it was the happy news that our rent is going up — again — that made me reach for the reassurance of “C’mon.” As with any truly great album, I couldn’t stop with just one song so I bathed my bruised psyche and spirit with “Empire State” and just kept going.

2008 has a lot to live up to. I’ve done Album of the Year posts in one forum or another for the last four years. Here are those winners:

  • Peter Karp — Shadows and Cracks (2007)
  • Guster — Ganging Up on the Sun (2006)
  • Oasis — Don’t Believe The Truth (2005)
  • U2 — How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb (2004)

  1. Not Guster again…
    -iPhone comment test.

  2. Just kidding…mostly. I was showing Mark that you can leave comments with the iPhone.

  3. I’ll be demonstrating my iPhone powers on Thursday so you better watch yourself, S.Rod. It’s not your birthday any more so you can be dealt with. ;-)

  4. I am now adding iPhone-based comments. Guster will now accept your apologies.
