DVD of The Moment: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Runnin’ Down a Dream
It’s a tired, tired Friday night and I’m relaxing by watching my Tom Petty DVD. It’s one way of getting ready for the Super Bowl. The way I figure, Tom Petty will be the most entertaining thing in Arizona on Sunday.
This is such a great movie and the footage is just great. I don’t know that I’ll get through all four hours tonight but I’m already a half hour into it and it feels like no time has passed at all. The music and the story just sucks you in and you can’t stop watching.
As a sidenote, Happy 58th Birthday, Mike Campbell. Talk about one of the underrated guitarists; just the most musical guitarist who can say so much in very tight spaces. The Heartbreakers aren’t a guitar band per se but just think of the memorable guitar figures and bite-size solos he’s recorded that are etched in our memory.
Fantastic.

i disagree about the superbowl’s entertainment value….because i think the giants are going to pull off an upset.
Saleski, you’re a prophet! Now generate some Lotto numbers and you are set! :o)
no way man. i bought was scratch ticket when i was 18…two bucks…i won five.
i’m three ahead and i’m stayin’ there!
Petty was spectacular. I’ve never heard him sound so good or so clear. I absolutely loved it. I’m now thinking about getting skinned for two tickets to see him in Atlanta. Yes, Sahm, he was good enough last night to make me re-consider Atlanta.
I agree that Petty played quite well.
But when I saw his lyrics being displayed on large screens behind the band, I had to stop and remember— Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, sponsored by Bridgestone Tires.
Sahm, you’re just going to have to restrict your listening to bands who play for free beer in their own garage. Once an artist signs a contract with a label — major or indie — and has decided to try to make a living at music they’ve lost their “innocence.” Once you sign on the dotted lines, you’re trying to learn how to “sell out with integrity.” I think Petty walks that line better than most…
and yes, he sounded great.
