Music Of The Moment: Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam

It took a few listens to even begin processing what the hell is going on with this record, but I think I’ve come up with it.

Listening to Strawberry Jam is like listening to three or four of your favorite records and the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds simultaneously.

It’s funny that I should listen to a record like this right now when I’ve just spent so much time talking about the so-called Loudness War, high fidelity, and compression on the BSCA because SJ is one of loudest, noisiest records I’ve ever heard in my life. Despite that, I really like this record.

It’s a funny, weird little record filled with sonic bombast that overloads the senses and pounds you into submission. It’s a psychedelic, noise rock, alternative record and I quite like it. I probably wouldn’t go out and buy 10 more just like it, but this is good even if I sometimes feel my brain cells melting as I listen.
