Nothing’s As Random As… Me
I woke up this morning… sorry, that’s a line for later tonight.
I started out listening to some Foo Fighters this morning, which I enjoyed but quickly tired of. I was having trouble deciding what to listen to. I have some new music I’ve just gotten which I really love, but listening to it makes me want to write about it and right now I have to get some work done. I need something that won’t depress or distract me, but will at the same time entertain and please me.
I started out with Eric Clapton’s 461 Ocean Blvd. That was doing a nice job. It’s a fine, fine record and fit the bill. Then I talked to a co-worker of mine and we got to discussing Wilco and their five-night run in Chicago where they played every song off every album (a box set of this residency is fucking well mandatory, fellas). Now nothing else will do. I’ve decided to listen to Being There. Of course it’s distracted me to the point of dashing off this quick note, but I think I’ll soon be able to return to what I need to be doing.

I’m going to be seriously upset if Wilco’s residency is not going to be officially released. Like, “pissing on something” upset. I have a feeling Wilco knows this - that fans are expecting some release of this, not that I’m going to pee on things because I’m so mad, I mean. They might want to be aware of that, however.
Speaking of seriously upset… I just bought the Tweedy DVD and wanted to download my MP3s. Guess what? My current version of QT doesn’t support Flash so I can’t access them. I want someone destroyed. NOW!
I might join you in pissing on someone if they don’t officially release the residency in a coherent fashion.
You know, you’re better off just ripping the audio from the DVD. I downloaded the tracks but was really disappointed to find that they cut out all of the in-between banter, which is a big part of the fun of these shows. Also annoying was that they didn’t segue from track to track - they just end in the middle of crowd-cheering and jump to the next song in the middle of crowd-cheering. Not to sound ungrateful, because it is cool that they did it at all, but I just don’t understand why they chose to do it this way. I think, however, there are a number of songs in the download that are not a part of the DVD. I’ll have to take a look tonight - before you rip, let me confirm, and if so, I can just zip up the whole thing and send you a link for the files.
Yeah, I’m noticing that the MP3s sound a little edited, as it were. I haven’t gotten to watch the DVD yet but I can still tell. I might wind up ripping the DVD after all that (I sent you an e-mail detailing my escapade). Unreal.
The ViaChicago forums are listing a bunch of places to get the Chicago run. It is all via torrent, and some of those sites aren’t accepting any new users, but I suspect they will show up in other more accessible places shortly.
I’d keep at eye out at bt.etree.org for the torrents too.
Look here, Brewster. They are all there.

Thanks ElB. I knew they’d probably be there, but etree gives me trouble over here.
I wonder if someone will take the time to sort it all out so you can have each album in a live form.
I hope they just release the full run. I can go back and make playlists of the individual albums in “live” form. Dump all five nights on me. That would be awesome.
