Confessions of a Fanboy

I still think the most exciting event of last night was Kansas’ stunning comeback victory against Memphis in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament last nigh, giving the Jayhawks their first title in 20 years. I didn’t imagine there would be competition, only because I forgot Bruce & Co. were playing San Jose last night.

The string of surprise openers continued as the band opened the show with “Light of Day.” That had to get the crowd’s attention. If it didn’t, I know Tom Morello’s guest stint on a fiery, electric version of “The Ghost of Tom Joad” did. “Tom Joad,” for those of you who don’t know, is a sparse acoustic song on record. Morello’s band Rage Against The Machine did an uptempo, electric cover of it a few years back. I imagine it was incredible. I’d love to hear it.

This surprise song stretch and inclusion of a Tom Joad song are good things for my dim hope of hearing “Across The Border” in Atlanta. This marks only the second Joad song of the tour (”Youngstown” was played in Pittsburgh on the first leg). Here’s the full set:
