The Six Degrees of Benmont Tench
Is there anyone who hasn’t played with this guy?
Tench, member of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, has contributed to a new album with former Toad the Wet Sprocket frontman Glen Phillips, Nickel Creek-ers Sara and Sean Watson, Pete Thomas and Dave Faragher of Elvis Costello’s Impostors, Luke Bula of Blue Merle, and multi-instrumentalist Greg Leisz. The as-yet named band is likely to release an album of new music sometime this year, most likely through an independent label.
Phillips recently discussed the album in an interview with Billboard magazine.
Meanwhile, Tench has an album coming out with Heartbreakers-precursor Mudcrutch (Petty, Tench, Mike Campbell, Tom Leadon, and Randall Marsh) as well as an upcoming tour with the Heartbreakers. Phillips is continuing his busy post-Toad solo career having just released a new EP called Secrets of the New Explorers (more on this release later).
Phillips is tentatively scheduled to appear on the B-Sides Concept Album on BlogTalk Radio May 8.
