“On Certain Sundays in November…”
Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!
After a week of obsessive Counting Crows listening, I moved on to R.E.M., Radiohead, and The Byrds. I even mixed in some Semisonic yesterday and introduced TheWifeToWhomI’mMarried to the cool that is The Raconteurs’ “Consolers of the Lonely.” I thought I was ready to set Counting Crows aside for awhile, but I woke up with the opening notes of “Hard Candy” playing in my head this morning.
“On certain Sundays in November…”
There is always a sense of mental relief when I finally give in and listen to the song in my head, but it’s more than that this morning. “Hard Candy” sounds even than it did in my memory bank.
My memory of the song couldn’t replicate the dancing piano figure from the verses, nor could it fully capture the ringing guitars. The song is even better than I thought it was! I’m just going to have to break down and listen to this album today.
Counting Crows, I’m not through with you yet.
