R.E.M. Accelerate Tour 05/29/08 Hollywood Bowl: “Pretty Persuasion” Opens The Show!

I had to check this twice to confirm that they did, in fact, open with “Pretty Persuasion.” That they played it is wonderful and a smidge surprising because one never knows what these guys are going to pull out. That they fucking opened with it is astounding. 11 might have left right then and there, having heard everyting he wanted to hear.

I’m soon going to post the 11 Dream Set List, and if I get clearance will post S.Rod’s dream set as well. What I can tell you about the show at the Hollywood Bowl is this: 11 would have damn near gotten his dream set had he been in attendance. I would have been pretty happy too, for they played “Fall On Me.” “Fall On Me” might be the most perfect song in their IRS catalog.

The Modest Mouse set was not available at press time. Check back for updates. In the meantime, here’s R.E.M.’s Hollywood Bowl set. This needs to be the live DVD from this tour.

  1. Nice to see Circus Envy make an appearance. PP is a unexpected opener and I wonder how many of the “younger” fans recognized it. I’m also curious as to which version of Drive they are planning the “funk” version or the album version.

  2. Don’t know about the version of “Drive.” I think I’d heard they went back to more of the album version and that the electrified version was something of a novelty.

“Pretty Persuasion” is fantastic as an opener but I bet you’re right… there were some kids who weren’t in the know.

  3. I am downloading the HB show as I type.

  4. You’ll have to let me know if the quality on the recording is good, El B. Sounds like this would have been a good one to see in the 18,000-seat HB.
