The Answers to Life’s Mysteries Can Be Found in Pulp Fiction
“Come on, let’s get into character.”
This will come as no great surprise to any of you, but tonight’s BSCA is all about reliving the experience of seeing Bruce Springsteen for the first time. 11 should be able to join the fray tonight. It wasn’t his first show, but his expert piloting brought us to-and-from with skill and wit.
In order to get myself ready to go to that place, I’m listening to “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out” from the NYC reunion set. In case you didn’t know, they played “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out” during our encore in Atlanta. I couldn’t exactly tell, but it looked like it was Little Steven’s idea. He was making some sort of gesture to Bruce at the end of “Rosalita.” Next thing I know, they’re playing “Tenth Avenue.” I think there was a connection there.
Anyway, the NYC version is a bunch of fun. For that tour and this show, this is the song was when Bruce did the band intros. It makes sense because the song is, in part, a loose biography of the band to that point. This version is unapologetically fun and I find myself smiling as it plays.
