And So It Begins
I hadn’t planned on repeating my start to yesterday, but here we go again. The chaos has not yet begun, but I’ve already started with instrumental music.
Thomas Newman is an Oscar-nominated composer. The list of films he’s scored is extensive. I have two soundtrack albums of his music: American Beauty and The Road to Perdition. Both scores are wonderful. I like the melodies and themes of Perdition and I love the non-traditional instrumentation of American Beauty.
It is an amazing achievement that music that was created to exist in the background can be this emotional and captivating as a “solo” piece. I’m not sure what it says about my state of mind that these two soundtracks would be where I’d begin my day, but there’s no questioning the quality.
