I Bought My CDs a Present

I haven’t been as faithful to the site this year as I’d hoped. I’m glad I didn’t make some contrived New Year’s Resolution because it would have been broken months ago. The “day job” has kept me extraordinarily busy and it’s quite possible the number of days off I’ve had in 2008 can be counted in the upper single digits or low double digits. It doesn’t look like that’s going to let up any time soon.

That’s the cloud. Here’s the silver lining. I’m getting paid for all these additional hours and last night I used some of that cash to make my home office something of a listening room. I didn’t break the bank and I didn’t buy serious audiophile equipment, but I did get a new receiver and some new speakers. It’s going to be nice to listen to music through “real” speakers rather than the crappy ones on my MacBook Pro.

So, what did I get? I got on Onkyo stereo receiver and a pair of Polk Audio M60 speakers. I can add a subwoofer later if I want one, but I’m not inclined to go that route. I got a pretty solid deal on it at HH Gregg (after having one of the worst customer experiences known to man at Circuit City).

Unfortunately, for the next few weeks I won’t get to spend nearly enough time in hear putting this equipment to work as I write but that day will soon come. In the meantime, there will be nights like this when I’m able to steal away to the office for a few minutes to jot down a few thoughts and listen to a couple of songs. Someday – and I hope that day is soon – I’ll be spending a lot of time in here, just me, a couple towers of CDs, my humble stereo, and my laptop computer.
