R.E.M. Accelerate Tour 05/24/08 George, WA: “These Days,” “Harborcoat” Highlight Rain-Soaked Show
“It’s not my fault!”
I was ready to put the set from Saturday’s show up on Sunday morning. Someone else wasn’t. This is as soon as I got ‘em, and I give them unto you. I’m starting to feel a little bit of a magic touch. No sooner did I sing the praises of “Harborcoat” and they play it! How cool is that? “Haroborcoat” made it’s debut. “Ignoreland” moves down a few spots in the set list but it appears that one might be here to say (no surprise).
Also of supreme excitement is the inclusion of “These Days!” That’s a great one from Life’s Rich Pageant. Once again, Accelerate dominated the show (which was apparently played in a torrential downpour). Once again, many of the non-Accelerate songs seem to be coming from deep in the band’s IRS catalog. Here’s the full rundown.
1. Living Well Is the Best Revenge
2. What’s The Frequency, Kenneth?
3. These Days
4. Drive
5. Accelerate
6. Auctioneer
7. Man-Sized Wreath
8. Ignoreland
9. Hollow Man
10. Life and How To Live It
11. Houston
12. Losing My Religion
13. Harborcoat
14. The One I Love
15. The Final Straw
16. Let Me In
17. Horse To Water
18. Bad Day
19. Walk Unafraid
20. I’m Gonna DJ
21. Orange Crush
22. Supernatural Superserious
23. Man on The Moon

Wow! What a great setlist! I really wish I could see the guys this tour. They are not playing anywhere close to me (rural WV) and I wish I was visiting my fiancee in Dresden in July. I last saw them in ‘03 and I’m always amazed that as an “older” band, they can rock! I’ve noticed (first two shows) that the songs are heavy on the up-tempo songs…very good if you ask me. Harborcoat is one of my all-time faves and I’m glad to see it make an appearance. I’m looking forward to your continual tracking of the setlists.
CoachD, thanks for the comment. You can count on ongoing setlist coverage throughout the tour. “Harborcoat” was a very pleasant surprise. That’s an oldie but a real favorite of mine.
I gotta brush up on this setlist or otherwise I’m going to be bored to tears playing S.Rod’s chaperone at MSG in June.
My consolation: Modest Mouse is opening… any chance you could include their setlists too when they play with the REMers?
What scares me is that your request is probably not a joke. The Modest Mouse set list? Really?
I kid, sort of. I’ll see if I can get any information on it. I like “Float On.” It’s a cute song. I don’t know much else about them other than I think they hail from somewhere near where I used to live (Issaquah, WA).
I can’t imagine it possible to be bored during an R.E.M. show, even though I’ve never experienced one firsthand.
Well, bored is probably not the right word… lost is more accurate— when you’re at a concert and would like to get into the band so you can appreciate the live performance more, but you just don’t know the songs at all to be able to connect.
First time I saw R.E.M, S.Rod made me two mix CD’s and every song but one was covered (I had a good time). Second time, they played all this new and obscure stuff (I was 80% lost). I’m hoping for a repeat of the 1st time.
It’s never the same as the first time, Sahm.
Here’s the MM set list for this show:
