R.E.M. Accelerate Tour 05/31/08 Berkeley Greek Theater 1: “Wolves, Lower” Premiered

R.E.M. played the first of two shows at the Greek Theater last night and I’m never going to hear the end of it. Yes, they played “Wolves, Lower.” 11 might shut up about that someday, but I doubt it. Well, allow me to rephrase. He’s swimming in his sea of right at this moment. Should they play this for him in Atlanta, I’ll never hear the end of it. It’s an odd set list, this first of two in Berkeley. For every “Wolves” and “Little America” there’s an “Imitation of Life” and a “Bad Day.” Hell, they opened with “Horse to Water” and closed the main set with “I’m Gonna DJ!” “Driver 8″ and “Life and How to Live It” in the encore helps.

Check out the uneven set list in full…

  1. Despite what you Fanboys and Fangirls say, I’ve found my first few listens of ‘Horse To Water’ to be quite good… upbeat and very catchy. It’s certainly better than Houston or Mr. Richards.

  2. “water (water)” Fuck off, that!

“Houston” is a bad song, I won’t argue with that. Which is better, “Horse” or “Houston?” Toss up. I’ll take “Mr. Richards” over either for at least having a better, more tuneful melody.

  3. ‘Horse To Water’ is definitely a catchy song.
After I ranted for 10 minutes about how they could open with it…I ended up humming the tune for a couple of hours. Damn it!
I can take DJ closing as long as they don’t open with HTW on the 19th.

  4. Don’t you go all 11 on me and turn soft on a song we’ve previously trashed. Don’t leave me twisting in the wind all alone.

“Horse to Water” is bad and it’s very important that we all agree on that. :D

  5. Catchy does not equal good. Better? :P

  6. Retreat in disgust is not the same as apathy. ;-)

  7. I also am enjoying ‘Sing for the Submarine’ and ‘Circus Envy’ from my S.Rod prepared mix of potential concert songs… I suppose you can tell me how you dislike those as well too, eh? :)

  8. No, sir. I happen to like R.E.M. and therefore like most R.E.M. songs. I like “Sing for the Submarine” more than some other folks I know. That one’s pretty solid. “Circus Envy” is kind of cool. It’s not a song I listen to often, but it is pretty good.
