Pearl Jam Rocks Bonnaroo: Manchester, TN 06/14/08 Setlist

Now this is more like it!

Pearl Jam wowed the massive Bonnaroo audience with a 3-hour show, headlining the second night of the festival up the road from me in Manchester, TN. I can’t imagine how tired that crowd had to be by the time it was all said and done. I hope I can buy the entire set of summer show bootlegs but if I have to pick and choose, I’m damn sure going to have this Bonnaroo set. Even with the extended run time, they still “only” played 25 songs, but I just have a feeling about this one.

It’s a bit surprising the band even played the festival at all having been so deeply scarred by the tragic deaths of nine fans at the Roskilde festival a few years ago. Pearl Jam is one of those bands still on my list of bands to see before I die. I can’t believe I’ve never seen them but somehow I’ve managed to miss them. I must correct that and soon.

Nine songs not played to this point on the tour were debuted. Of those, there were covers of The Who’s “Love Reign O’er Me,” Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower,” and the oft-covered “Crazy Mary.”

  1. I saw excerpts of this on the Fuse network (who are doing some live broadcasts from Bonaroo) and PJ sounded pretty damn smokin’. Hopefully our friend El Bicho will still be in one piece when he gets home.

Vedder needs to ditch the hippie beard though. This aint’ My Morning Jacket…

    Encore 1:
    17. Nothingman
    18. Black
    19. Life Wasted

    Encore 2:
    21. You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away (Vedder, solo)
    22. Alive
    23. Yellow Ledbetter

Vedder was fantastic, very talkative, sharing a bottle with the front rows, giving guitar picks to little kids who had no idea who he was. It was one of the best shows I’ve seen so far this year, right up there with Springsteen and Radiohead.

  3. Young Donald, you didn’t look closely. I already posted Tampa. :D

I’ve still never seen Pearl Jam and am horribly disappointed by that fact. I intend to do something about it… soon. Even TWTWIM wants to see them. That helps.

I also have to hate you for a long, long time because I missed Radiohead this summer.

Are you going to buy the bootleg from this show?

  4. Yeah, I’ll definitely get the bootleg of the Pearl Jam show. It seems that it won’t be available for download until the 26th, but I’ll get it then.

Would it make you hate me any less if I told you that I was 9th row center for Radiohead? Probably not…

  5. Shit, El Bicho always makes it home.

Dang, Josh. You hate DG because he’s seen Pearl Jam twice? I better not mention how many times I’ve caught them, especially the show in ‘91 when they opened for Nirvana, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers with special guest appearance by Perry Farrell on “Higher Ground.”

I’m downloading the Bonnaroo set as I type.

The record of the adventure will appear soon.

  6. P.S. I’ll be at the Hollywood Bowl for Radiohead

  7. And I’ll be at White River (for radiohead that is).
