Keeps On Rainin’: Martin’s Painted Desert, Earthspeaker, and Back Door Slam

Okay, now I really want to hear Zenga! I’ve finished listening to The Painted Desert and that led me quickly to Earthspeaker. This is such amazing music. Moments like this remind me of what I deeply believe: great music is still being made today. Don’t let anyone tell you any differently. There are so many great independent artists out there making valid, vital work. There are even some fantastic records being made by major label artists. I’ve talked about it and around it a million times: the music isn’t the problem, the bullshit surrounding it is.

I don’t believe the ratio of good music to bad music is that much better or worse than it has ever been. There are simply too many external forces that make that perception feel like reality. Reject it, my brothers and sisters! Reject it and be re-born.

As it is, I’ve got to order a CD by an independent band called Back Door Slam. Friend of the site El Bicho raved about them in his Bonnaroo wrapup as well as during his appearance on the B-Sides Concept Album. I watched a performance they gave on Jimmy Kimmel’s show on YouTube and that coupled with El Bicho’s (usually) impeccable taste has me ready to fork over the money to buy in.

It’s all around us and it’s easier than ever to access. To quote Adam Duritz, “The internet is the best thing that ever happened to music.”

Amen.
