R.E.M. Accelerate Tour Set List 07/ 21/08 Verona, Italy: “Wolves, Lower,” “Strange Currencies”
Two words: “Wolves, Lower.”
I can’t help but gush nearly every time I see an R.E.M set list. Thre is a stretch during this show when I would have just died: “Electrolite” – “The Great Beyond” – “Strange Currencies” – “Walk Unafraid.” I throw “Walk” in there because while it’s not my favorite song on record, it’s a surprisingly strong one in concert. Add to that “Country Feedback” and “Star 69″ and you have yourself one hell of a show. If they’d only kept “Fall On Me” in the encore, it would have been stellar. Still, this is a damn good one.

I saw the show in Verona, Arena is a great venue, even too much comfortable if Mike Mills had to remind the people that “you’re not at the opera, you don’t need to sit down…” (strange indeed for the italians, but he didn’t need to tell them twice…) . From then on, REM simply set the place on fire, with a very inspired Stipe leading the way. Wolves? Exhuming old songs and blending them perfectly with the others is not for everyone, really. Well worth it, but coming “Let me in”, Stipe’s voice was a bit down… that’s fine Michael don’t worry. I really liked them performing Cuyahoga and Country Feedback, and I really think “It’s the end of the world” should always be the closing act. My 0.2€, best REM concert I saw in a long time.
It looks like it was a great set list and sounds like you had a fantastic time. I’m hoping they get back to the US for some more shows. I really want to see them again.
3 long years wating them to come back to Italy!
I could not miss them therefor I was in Perugia, in Verona and I am going tonight in Milan.
I will not certainly miss Bologna in September…
It’s sound crazy but R.E.M. on stage is a natural medicine for me.. First time I saw them live was in Perugia more then 20 years ago, 40 people all together maybe…
Teen agers were crazy for duran duran and I was crazy for R.E.M. … strange world
Perugia was great, none was sitting and even if it was the final day of Umbria Jazz and I was expecting a different audience the adrenaline was really high. Sound was great and a full moon just over the stage!
Verona was a great concert, the setlist slightly different… (it’s the end of the world was not played in Perugia) the audience excited but it was impossible in the Arena to dance and move… it’s a great concert location as you can enjoy the stage from every single seat of the venue but was very stressfull not being able to move.
No moon in Verona!
Milan…??? I don’t know, will let you know after tonight… the venue is very similar to the Perugia one, I ve seen Radiohead there and the sound was good…
I hope they’ll keep on setlist it’s the end of the world!
THEY’VE PLAYED LEAVING NEW YORK!!!
