the morning benders Giving Away the bedroom covers On Their Site
We’ve heard some of the hipsters take the piss out of Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails’ new distribution models. It reminds me of days spent schlepping videos to the masses, working my way through college. You want to know what caused more headaches than anything else on that job? Well, besides the customers? It wasn’t late fees. Sure people bitched about them, but we had more people get pissy when we were trying to give something away than we ever did about late fees. Give people a coupon for a fuckin’ movie and they’d try to walk out with the whole fuckin’ store. It was insane.
I brought all that up because one of things some people have said regarding Radiohead and NIN is that it’s no big deal for big, rich rock bands to give an album away because they can afford it. I always thought that was a bullshit criticism because no one has to do it for free. That big bands like NIN and Radiohead were willing says a lot to me, but whatever. I see the point critics might be trying to make even if I think it’s bullshit. Well, we can now add another band to the list of those giving away free music on the internet and they’re hardly in the earnings bracket of a Radiohead or a NIN.
